Installation

This guide walks you through installing and setting up LutraCAD on your computer. LutraCAD is installed locally, so you keep full control over your data and resources.

Before You Begin​

Before starting the installation process, please ensure your system meets the following requirements:

  • Operating System: Windows 10 or later
  • Processor: 64-bit Intel or AMD processor (Not ARM)
  • RAM: 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended
  • Storage: 10 GB of available hard-disk space
  • Graphics: OpenGL 4.5 capable video card with 4 GB of VRAM is recommended
  • Mouse: A multi-button mouse with a scroll wheel is recommended
  • Internet Connection: Required for license activation and optional database synchronization
Windows-Only Support

LutraCAD currently supports Windows operating systems only.

Not supported
  • Boot Camp on Apple Silicon Macs
  • Virtualization systems such as VMWare, Remote Desktop, and Parallels
  • ARM processors including the Microsoft SQ® 1 and 2

Installation Overview​

The installation process consists of the following steps:

  1. Downloading and installing Rhino
  2. Activating your Rhino license
  3. Downloading and installing LutraCAD
  4. Choosing installation options

Each of these steps will be covered in detail in the subsequent sections of this installation guide.

Downloading the Rhino Installer​

To download Rhino:

  1. Visit the official website at rhino3d.com
  2. Click on the Download button
  3. Login with your existing account or create a new account
  4. After logging in, check the Privacy Policy and click Download

Before the download, change the Rhino language to the preferred language

Activating Your Rhino License​

After installing Rhino, you'll need to activate your license:

  1. Open the e-mail you received from McNeel
  2. Click on "Join Team"
  3. Login with your existing account or create a new account
E-mail Not Received

If you did not receive an e-mail, please check your spam folder. Sometimes license activation e-mails may be filtered there.

New Account Creation

If you create a new account, you may need to click "Join Team" again after account creation to properly join the team and activate your license.

Downloading the LutraCAD Installer​

To download LutraCAD:

  1. Visit manager.lutracad.com
  2. Log in to your account
  3. Navigate to the "Downloads" section
  4. Select the version of the software appropriate for your operating system
  5. Click the "Download" button to start the download

Starting LutraCAD​

Once installed, double-click the LutraCAD icon on your desktop or in the Start menu. You can also launch it by searching for its name in the Windows search bar.

At startup LutraCAD asks you to sign in and select a license before the workspace opens. See Signing In & Licenses.
