Pressure plate analysis
Location: Project page → sidebar → Analysis → Pressure measurement
Pressure plate analysis reads live data from a connected pressure plate, or loads a saved measurement, and turns it into pressure images, distribution figures, and gait metrics. It opens as a full-screen overlay with four tabs: Static, Dynamic, Balance, and File.
Opening the analysis
- Open the project.
- In the sidebar, go to Analysis and choose Pressure measurement.
The overlay opens with the header Pressure plate analysis. A connection badge at the top shows the plate state: Connected, Connecting..., or Disconnected.
Static tab
The Static tab captures a still, standing pressure image and its distribution.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Start | Captures a static frame from the plate. |
| Reset | Clears the current static result. |
| Status | Shows Waiting to start, Capturing..., or Completed. |
| Live preview | Live pressure image from the plate before you capture. |
| Pressure / Zones toggle | Switches each foot's result image between the raw pressure map and the zone map. |
After a capture, the results include:
- Left / Right distribution and Forefoot / Heel distribution percentages.
- A Quadrants table (left/right by forefoot/heel).
- Per-foot Left foot zones and Right foot zones tables.
Each zone table has these columns:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Zone | Anatomical zone of the foot. |
| % | Share of load in that zone. |
| Avg | Average pressure in the zone. |
| Peak | Peak pressure in the zone. |
Click any result image to enlarge it.
Dynamic tab
The Dynamic tab is a guided two-pass walk measurement that produces per-step gait results.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Walking direction | Shows the current pass direction, Walk from left to right or Walk from right to left. This is set automatically by the guided flow (display only). |
| Status | Shows Waiting to start, Ready for walk, Recording..., or Completed. |
| Current instruction | On-screen guidance for the current step. |
| Reset | Restarts the whole dynamic flow. |
Guided flow
A dialog steps you through the passes:
- First measurement: click Start to record the pass, then Accept to keep it or Redo to record it again.
- Review measurement: check the recorded pass.
- Second measurement: record the second pass the same way.
Dynamic summary
Once both passes are captured, the summary shows Frames captured, Max pressure, Contact time, and Cadence, plus left/right and forefoot/heel distribution. Each foot's result view has the same Pressure / Zones toggle.
Per-foot gait metrics
| Metric | Unit | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Contact time | ms | Time the foot is in contact with the plate. |
| Max pressure | n/a | Highest pressure recorded for the foot. |
| Impulse | N·s | Accumulated force over the contact. |
| Forefoot / Heel % | % | Load share between forefoot and heel. |
| Heel strike | ms | Moment the heel first contacts. |
| Toe off | ms | Moment the toes leave the plate. |
| Peak pressure time | ms | Moment peak pressure is reached. |
| Foot progression angle | ° | Angle of the foot relative to the walking direction. |
Charts
Each foot shows two charts: Pressure over time and Force per zone.
Balance tab
The Balance tab measures centre-of-pressure / postural sway while standing still. It reports Duration, Path length, Mean velocity, AP excursion (range/SD), ML excursion (range/SD), and 95% ellipse area.
File tab
The File tab opens a previously saved pressure measurement instead of measuring live.
- Click Open file and select an
.apdfile. - A spinner appears while it loads. A failed load shows an error message.
- After a successful load, the result appears in the Static or Dynamic tab automatically.
To save your current static or dynamic result as an .apd file, use the Save button in the footer.
