3. Production
The production tab contains settings that control final production specifications for your orthotic device. Options vary based on the production method selected in Tab 1.
General Settings
Heel Edge Thickness
Defines thickness created around the heel area.
Grinding
Options to connect top and bottom surfaces:
- Straight: Connects in a straight line
- Round: Connects with a round shape
- Hybrid: Straight connection at heel, round at midfoot
- Vertical: Direct downward connection, ignores plantar design
Only visible for "Milling: EVA 2 sides" and "Printing: Solid" production methods.
Smooth Elements
When enabled, smooths element edges after merging with the device, allowing more natural blending.
Printing Solid Settings
These settings appear only when "Printing: Solid" is selected.
Split Elements
When enabled, all elements (not sinks) automatically split the insole to create hardness zones.
In steps 1 and 2, clicking an element allows disabling automatic split for that element.
Arch Skive
Removes material under the arch at a specific angle.
- Movement: Moves arch skive forward/backward
- Height: Arch skive height (standard is 5mm lower than device top)
- Length: Arch skive length
- Angle: Arch skive angle - larger values create more undercut
Arch Grind Depth
Creates a solid region on the medial arch side when sliced through LutraCAD.
Trimmable Forefoot
Makes the front portion solid when sliced through LutraCAD.
Top Cover Accommodate
Removes specified amount from device top to accommodate a top cover. Material is removed from the entire device.
Addition: Split
Draw a curve to create a custom hardness zone.
Shell Settings
These settings appear only when "Printing: Shell" is selected.
Round Edge
Creates a round edge instead of straight when enabled.
Rearfoot Post
Heel post options with sub-options per type:
None
- Bottom Skive: Creates a skive on device bottom
Extrinsic
Block
- Beveled Heel Post: Cuts off part of heel block's medial side
- Length (%): Length based on device length
- Taper Angle: Heel block angle
- Fillet Radius: Fillet of bottom heel block edge
Fluent (O)
- Side: Starting side for rearfoot post rotation (center, medial, lateral)
- Rearfoot Post Rotate: Degrees of rotation
Fluent (U)
- Side: Starting side for rearfoot post rotation (center, medial, lateral)
- Rearfoot Post Rotate: Degrees of rotation
Custom
- Draw: Draw custom heel post area
- Adjustment Offset: Controls heel post verticality; lower values create steeper post
- Side: Starting side for rotation (center, medial, lateral)
- Rearfoot Post Rotate: Degrees of rotation
Intrinsic
- Adjustment Offset: Adjusts horizontal plane to create larger/smaller flattened heel area
Forefoot Post
Creates a forefoot post.
Addition: Strengthen
Draw a curve to make an area thicker or thinner.
- Enabled: Enable/disable strengthening
- Height: Material to add or remove
- Smooth: Distance over which strengthening blends with device
Shell Printing Settings
These settings appear only for shell printing options.
Addition: Cut Out
Draw a curve to remove a specific part of the device.
General Printing Settings
Available for all 3D printing production methods.
Addition: Hole Pattern
Draw a curve to determine hole pattern region.
- Enabled: Enable/disable hole pattern
- Through: If enabled, pattern goes through device; otherwise, create pattern only on top or bottom
- Hexagon Format: Hexagon size
- Hexagon Distance: Distance between hexagons
- Distance to Edge: Distance from edge where pattern begins
Full-Length Device Options
Available for full-length devices.
Sandal
Converts insole to sandal model with edge around forefoot.
- Edge Height: Height of created edge
- Extra Length: Extra length added for edge
Not visible for shell devices.
Amputation
Draw custom curve for toe filler.
- Draw: Draw custom curve; can replace existing curve
- Height: Toe filler height
- Fillet Inside: Fillet on inner device part
- Fillet Outer: Fillet on device edge
- Interface Fillet: Fillet between device and toe filler
Mold-Specific Settings
These settings appear only when "Milling: Mold" is selected.
Height
Determines total mold height.
